Protect yourself, your family, and friends with these simple tips:
- Use a unique unintelligible password for every account (combine at least 8 upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols such as wEm38@$u)
- Use a password manager to generate, store, autofill, and organize all your passwords (such as LastPass.com or Dashlane.com)
- Check to see if your accounts have been hacked by regularly checking haveibeenpwned.com
- Don’t click on unknown links or open documents you were not expecting. Go to the website on your own by typing in the URL address in your browser. Text or call the sender at a known valid number (not the one in the current message with the curious document) to confirm they sent you that document
- Don’t provide money, access, or passwords to anyone who asks you to help them right now because of an emergency. Independently confirm the circumstances before acting
